Korea’s Favorite Meat Dish, Bulgogi

One of the most popular dishes served at our Korean restaurant in Seattle is the classic barbeque bulgogi. Consisting of marinated meat grilled with mushrooms, peppers, and other veggies, bulgogi is a simple dish with rich, complex flavors. The meat, typically beef, marinates in soy sauce, garlic, sesame oil, sugar, pepper and other ingredients to give it that special flavor.

The grilling techniques used to achieve bulgogi trace back to early Korean culture when braziers, dome griddles, and gridirons were used to prepare the meat. The word bulgogi, which means “fire meat,” thus came from these early culinary methods.
